Influenza Media Resources

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) has developed online resources reporters can download and reference when developing stories on influenza.  These materials are designed to provide media with a comprehensive overview of the complex and seasonal nature of this deadly virus and the necessary public health response to address the annual 36,000 deaths and more than 200,000 hospitalizations attributed to influenza.

Topics covered include:

Public health goals for seasonal influenza vaccination and treatment recommendations
The need to improve immunization rates and vaccine delivery via various immunization programs
Ongoing influenza virus surveillance and reporting
Yearly influenza vaccine production, supply and distribution
Immunization of populations at increased risk for influenza-related complications, including children
Annual provider and consumer education efforts

NFID encourages reporters to access these materials to support development of seasonal influenza vaccination media coverage year-round.
